Some rooms are just four walls and a folding table. The Loft upstairs at KULT. Gosforth isn’t one of them. Sitting above our coffee shop on Gosforth High Street, it makes venue hire in Newcastle feel like rather less of a chore: a private event space for up to 40 guests, with speciality coffee and matcha on tap downstairs and an optional evening bar when the occasion calls for it.
The question we get asked most isn’t how much or when — it’s what could I actually do up there? So here are five ideas that work beautifully in the space, plus what each one tends to look like in practice.

1. A paint and sip night (or any hands-on creative session)
We have in the past run our own version of this every month — KULT. KREATIVE. An experienced artist guides the room, the medium rotates, materials are included and there’s a complimentary glass of fizz waiting when you sit down. No experience needed. That’s the whole point.
But the format belongs to anyone who wants to borrow it. The Loft’s natural light and open floor make it genuinely good for making things, and we’ve seen it work for:
- Pottery and clay taster sessions
- Floristry and wreath-making workshops
- Candle pouring, jewellery making, lino printing
- Life drawing and watercolour classes
- Photography or content-creation workshops
Why it works here: creative sessions need surface space, decent light and somewhere to put a drink down. The Loft has all three, and the coffee shop underneath means your attendees arrive caffeinated rather than queuing.
2. A team away day that people don’t dread
Venue hire in Newcastle for a meeting usually means a beige box off a corridor with a projector nobody can connect to. We’d rather you had somewhere with a bit of personality.
The Loft works well for team sessions of 10–40: strategy days, quarterly planning, training, onboarding weeks, brainstorm sessions and board meetings. Because it’s a private floor, you get the room to yourselves for the day rather than sharing a corner of a coffee shop with the general public.
A typical away day here looks like coffee and pastries on arrival, a working morning upstairs, a lunch order from our kitchen, and — if the day earns it — the bar opening when you need it (after 12pm).
- Best for: 10–40 people
- Good format: half-day or full-day daytime booking
- Add-ons: speciality coffee and matcha service, food, evening bar
3. A networking or community meet-up
Newcastle has a real appetite for the likes of professional meet-ups, founder breakfasts, freelancer socials, creative industry mixers, book clubs and run club debriefs. What these events almost always lack is a venue that’s private enough to talk in and relaxed enough that nobody feels like they’re at a conference.
The Loft is a good size for it. Forty people is large enough for a proper room and small enough that everyone actually meets everyone. Morning networking works especially well: we open at 7:30am on weekdays, so a breakfast session can start before the working day does.
Ideas that fit the format:
- Founder and freelancer breakfast clubs
- Industry-specific meet-ups and panel nights
- Book clubs and film discussion evenings
- Run club socials and post-run coffee
- Launch nights for local brands and makers
4. A wellness event or movement session
Our whole menu leans this way — matcha, overnight oats, protein shakes, açaí bowls, smoothies — so wellness events feel native to the building rather than bolted on.
The Loft has hosted and suits:
- Yoga, pilates and mobility classes
- Breathwork and guided meditation sessions
- Sound baths
- Nutrition and wellbeing talks
- Supper clubs and tasting menus with a health focus
Practical note: the space is clear-floor, so mats and props work fine. Pair the session with a matcha or smoothie service afterwards and you’ve got a complete event rather than just a class in a room.
5. A private celebration — birthdays, showers, anniversaries
This is the one people book most. Private party hire in Gosforth means you don’t have to choose between a restaurant table that’s too formal and a house party that’s too small.
The Loft handles:
- Milestone birthdays (18ths, 21sts, 30ths, 40ths, 50ths, 60ths and beyond)
- Baby showers and gender reveals
- Bridal showers, hen dos and engagement drinks
- Christenings and family gatherings
- Anniversary parties and retirement dos
- Christmas parties and end-of-year team celebrations
Daytime bookings get the coffee shop service — coffee, matcha, food, the lot. Evening bookings can add a bar. Either way, the floor is yours.
A bonus sixth: quiz night, done properly
We run a quiz on the last Thursday of every month. It’s a laid-back social evening with just enough of a competitive edge to make people care about round three. If you’ve got a group, a society, a workplace team or a charity that wants its own version, the format transfers straight into a private booking.
